Achieving Weight Loss Using a High Protein Diet

Many people have reported achieving weight loss using a high protein diet in the last ten years. It is actually a well-documented fact that many people have achieved a lot of weight loss using high protein weight loss plans. It is also well-documented that achieving weight loss using a high protein diet has failed for many people. There has been a lot of controversy over the health effects over such a diet and whether the weight loss achieved by many will endure over the long term.

The pattern for weight loss using a high protein diet is often a lot of weight loss early on in the dieting process. But deeper analysis has since shown that the amount of weight difference found using a high protein diet can be traced to decreased hydration. At the same time, when you start a healthy weight loss diet your body may retain water initially, making it seem like you aren't burning fat when you actually are burning fat. Once the amount of water held by the body is accounted for, there isn't really any difference in weight loss from other diets consuming the same amount of calories with the same amount of exercise.

The problems with sticking to a program of weight loss using a high protein diet start after the water is lost. Instead of losing four or five pounds per week, they are lucky to lose one pound per week. Most people become discouraged and don't feel the diet is worthwhile anymore when they don't see big results.

What is believed to take place during a high protein diet is a bodily state of metabolic ketosis. During this state, chemical substances known as ketone bodies are created to suppress the diet. Recently the new statistics on water loss and longer-term weight loss have called into question whether or not this process is actually effective for achieving weight loss using a high protein diet.

The main concern of nutritionists and doctors with high protein diet weight loss is that our bodies are not made to ingest high amounts of protein and animal fats. There are a lot of medical conditions associated with diets high in these sources of calories. Because of this, you should always seek the advice of a doctor before attempting any high protein diet. Additionally, as soon as you come off of your diet, you have not learned to eat any healthier than before and you are likely to just regain all of the weight you lost unless you go straight to health foods after achieving weight loss using a high protein diet.
